Is it just me…?

…or does it seem like people like your posts without ever actually reading them?

Just a thought I had today.

        1. Although, when I began my first blog, I was focused solely on getting my thoughts out and not hold them inside, I have gotten to a point where I like feedback and hearing others’ thoughts. It’s not vital, but I do enjoy insight.

    1. But you DO comment, from time to time. I’m like you…sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I have a few followers I don’t know if they have ever commented. Not that I’m complaining, just something I noticed. 🙂

  1. Yeh, I guess folk are like that. Though some I believe do read them, but are never too sure what they should say in response.
I must admit I fall into that category sometimes; read something and think ‘Gosh, that’s profound’ or ‘Hey that’s nice’…and then get an ‘eloquence-freeze’ and can’t reply unless I spoil the mood of the post by posting something clumsy…. Oh well, as you say in the US ‘Go figure’ 🙃
    Best wishes from the UK

  2. Yip, that’s how I feel a lot of the time. Getting random “likes” as if the person is just wanting me to return the favour or to gain a new follower. I don’t “like” posts, if I haven’t read them. That’s just pointless.

  3. I’ve thought this for a long time. Pretty much forever. Sometimes I see a ‘like’ pop up about 10 seconds after I hit publish. There’s no way the person read the post! I’d like to think people just don’t have a comment but let’s face it, some of them don’t read. If I like’ something, I’ve read it. But I don’t always have something to say or know what to say or even feel in the mood to talk. I’m a moody bitch. And I hate to comment just to comment, you know? Then it just seems like I’m insincere. I know everyone likes to get comments, but if I really can’t think of what to say, it seems silly to me to make something up. And sometimes I can’t keep up at all…

I got off topic there. Yeah… I will sometimes get 30-40 or more likes on a post… but half as many (often fewer) comments. I’d guess a bunch of those likers didn’t actually read the post. But maybe some of them just didn’t know what to say.

  4. I comment if I get an instinctive urge to do so, as if it were a real conversation. But if I’ve just enjoyed the read but need to move on to other posts, or get to work, I will just ‘like’. 😊

  5. Hi. I do as bone&silver. But I do believe many like posts without reading them 😦 As to why they do this… I just don’t understand and would very much like to know.

  6. I think most people are probably used to other social media formats that encourage liking a statement as a show of solidarity. They might not understand that writers genuinely enjoy the criticism of their work, be it good or bad or just acknowledgement and the like button can only say so much.

  7. I got a like and follow from a wine tasting/review blog which is sooo inappropriate. I first was a bit weirded out then I thought, yeah they’re just doing the random liking without reading thing. I’m quiet generally and similar online. Sometimes I’m not sure what to write but do want to give some sort of feedback so I like without commenting. Sometimes I comment too 🙂 It’s not just you, it’s just one of those odd blogging things I guess.

  8. I never like without reading and truly liking. It seems inauthentic to me. I know when I get likes I feel good that someone connected to my piece. I want others to feel that way when I like theirs. I try not to leave a ton of comments. Is it overly invasive? I don’t know how to navigate social media well. I am in my 30’s.

  9. I might go through the WP reader and like a bunch of posts to support a blog and give them some traffic but I only read the ones I am actually interested in. There just isn’t enough time to read everything.

  10. I read the post and if I can identify with it I click “like”. If I can’t, I don’t. Sometimes I comment… sometimes I go into my own world and I don’t. Like everyone else, I’m a work in progress.

  11. sometimes…and sometimes I know I’ve read a post that is complicated, and didn’t know exactly what to say, so using like is a way to say “I see you, I hear you, I’m with you”…? 😉 Hope you are doing okay…<3
